I’m not a journalist or writer. I don’t pretend to be. I started this Substack to write essays about issues that I want to dive deep on, or when I have something really urgent to say. If all my social media accounts disappear, Substack will be the only place I will continue to post content. With that being said, I have something really important I need to get off of my chest today: It’s time to leave the United States of America.
Yesterday I saw a headline that stopped me in my tracks. PRESIDENTS DONALD TRUMP AND NAYIB BUKELE SAID THEY WON’T RELEASE KILMAR ABREGO GARCIA. The article goes on to say “The leaders of both nations suggested they don’t have the power to do so.” SCOTUS issued a ruling last week upholding a trial judge’s order that instructs the Trump Administration to “facilitate” the transfer of Kilmar Abrego Garcia back to the United States. Both Presidents sat in the White House yesterday grinning and laughing while reporters asked if they were going to bring Garcia back to the US. Bukele said he didn’t have the “power” to bring Garcia back to the United States. If he doesn’t have the power to extradite a man in the custody of the country that he’s in charge of, who the hell does???
Kilmar Abrego Garcia has not been charged with a crime. He has not received due process, which is entitled to all persons in the United States under the Constitution, regardless of their citizenship status. Republican lawmakers have been falsely telling Americans that if you break the law, you don’t have the right to due process. The checks and balances are gone. If the President is telling the world that he will not listen to SCOTUS, we are officially in a Constitutional crisis. I tend to believe that we have been in a Constitutional crisis since January 6th, 2021 and have yet to stop being in said crisis.

Trump went on to further state that he will be looking at ways to deport “homegrown” criminals, i. e. American citizens. The Department of Justice is the check on the balance that should enforce the rulings of the courts. But it’s clear that Pam Bondi has no intention of doing so. Everyone in the Trump administration is there solely due to a loyalty oath to the President, not the Constitution. They have all repeatedly stated that the courts have no authority over the President. They ignore the fact that the founding fathers established 3 CO-EQUAL branches of government to check and balance one another so that one branch doesn’t become power hungry. They never anticipated that one party would become the dominant party in all forms of government and unilaterally decide that we now have a king and not a President. But here we are in 2025. All hail King Trump!
The writing has been on the wall. If you have the means and ability, you should leave the country now. If you don’t have the means, start working on it. Save as much money as you can, get a passport/visa, and look at where you can go now. Even if you just leave temporarily (you can stay in Canada for up to 6 months without a visa), it’s time to go. Besides the clear disregard for the Constitution, the rule of law, and human rights, Trump is isolating us from the rest of the world and slowly tanking our economy. RFK Jr is going to kill our loved ones with his stupid MAHA policy. Our national security secrets are not safe in the hands of this administration and our allies and enemies are watching. We are on the verge of a humanitarian and/or national security disaster. The United States is a dying empire and King Trump is going to take us all down with him.
I want Vermont to join Canada. I'm tired of waiting for the Confederacy, white supremacy, Christian nationalism, libertarianism, MAGA to be fixed. I'm done, and I want to be part of a more rational country, without leaving my home.
Unfortunately I'm stuck here so I will go down with this fucking ship. This rickety ass ship .
