Dominion’s Disappearing Act
Why the Sale to “Liberty Vote” Should Worry Us All
When the news dropped that Dominion Voting Systems had been sold and rebranded as Liberty Vote, the media largely called it a fresh start. A new name and a shiny veneer of “trust and transparency.” But I think the timing and tone of this move is shady as hell.
The buyer, Scott Leiendecker, is a former Republican election official from St. Louis and founder of KNOWiNK, which makes electronic poll books. He knows the election system better than most, and now he’s stepping into the national spotlight with the company that became the ultimate scapegoat for MAGA conspiracy nuts. On paper, the messaging about restoring election integrity and emphasizing paper ballots sounds responsible for the average voter. In reality, it’s a wink and a nod to the same people who spent five years spreading lies about the 2020 election.

A Convenient Redemption Story
Dominion spent years being dragged through the mud after 2020, targeted by Trump allies who accused it of flipping votes and rigging machines. None of it was true, but Dominion still had to fight for years in court to survive the character assassination. Fox News coughed up $787.5 million. Newsmax another $67 million. And yet the lies didn’t go away. The name Dominion became toxic in conservative circles, despite Republicans winning a majority in 2024.
Now, just one year before the next midterm election, Dominion sells itself to a guy whose political pedigree sits squarely in the movement that tried to destroy it. And the press release reads like a MAGA-themed pep rally. “Liberty Vote” is the kind of name designed to make diehard election deniers nod and think, “finally, it’s safe to use these machines again.” In reality, our election system is perfectly reliable. Election fraud is extraordinarily rare.
Paper Isn’t the Problem. Trust Is.
Liberty Vote promises hand-marked paper ballots and rigorous audits. But here’s the kicker: most of Dominion’s systems already did this. The problem was never the machines. The problem was the bullshit political theater that convinced millions the machines were rigged.
Rebranding Dominion as Liberty Vote might soothe some of the loudest conspiracy theorists, but having a partisan MAGA owner who wants to fix a system that isn’t broken just screams corruption. It’s like handing the keys of a Ferrari to someone who thinks it needs a bigger engine because they don’t trust it to drive straight.
Timing and the Trust Test
Why now? Dominion had finally cleared some of its biggest legal hurdles, including huge settlements, and could have continued business without a dramatic rebrand. Instead, it sells right as the 2026 midterms loom and “election integrity” is back in MAGA’s crosshairs.
Putting a MAGA-friendly Republican election official in charge is a calculated move. The message to conservative counties is loud and clear: this is safe now. Ignore the history. Ignore the lawsuits. Ignore the fact that this company was smeared for years by the very people it now seems to be courting. The subtext is obvious and a little gross: trust can be manipulated if the packaging is right.
A Democracy Drowning in Conspiracies
The people who lied about Dominion have faced almost no consequences, and they are still very much in the game. In fact, the remaining lawsuits Dominion had pending against the loudest voices in the Stop the Steal movement are now being dropped due to the sale. The sale to Liberty Vote looks less like a business move and more like a reward, a way to soothe critics while sidestepping any real confrontation.
When authoritarians take control, they end free and fair elections. We know Trump does not want to leave the White House. Proof? January 6th ring a bell to anyone? The conservative party will do anything to stay in power. In my opinion, this purchase has Trump’s name written all over it.
Final Thoughts
Dominion’s sale is more than a business transaction. It is a test of whether American election infrastructure can survive in a climate where partisan loyalty matters more than honesty and patriotism. Will the American public and legacy media see through the bullshit and realize that this country’s democracy is in peril? Or will we keep sliding face first into full-blown fascism?
